So to Speak’s 2016 Contests Now Open
Our 2016 contests in Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, and Visual Arts are NOW OPEN! You can submit your work using our Submittable submissions manager. There is a $15 reading fee per submission. Multiple submissions are welcomed in the same or other genres, an entry fee is required for each submission.
Winners in each genre will receive a $500 prize, publication in the print journal, and 2 copies of the prize issue.
Up to three finalists may also be featured in the journal and will be eligible for publication in our annual print anthology.

Exhibitions Director, McLean Project for the Arts
So to Speak is open to review any form of visual artwork. Past issues have included photography, drawing, painting, digital media, and images of various installations and sculpture. We welcome submissions including performance, digital and new media, photography and all 2D and 3D visual art forms.

Judged by Natalie Diaz
Natalie Diaz is the author of the poetry collection When My Brother Was an Aztec (2012). She earned her MFA from Old Dominion. Her honors and awards include the Nimrod/Hardman Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry, the Louis Untermeyer Scholarship in Poetry from Bread Loaf, the Narrative Poetry Prize, and a Lannan Literary Fellowship.
FICTION

Judged by Laura Ellen Scott
Laura Ellen Scott teaches fiction writing at George Mason University, where she is the department’s Academic Coordinator. Her work has been selected for The Wigleaf Top Fifty of 2009 and Barrelhouse magazine’s Futures issue. She has twice been nominated for Dzanc’s Best of the Web 2010 anthology.

Judged by Kerry Howley
Kerry Howley’s essays, reviews, stories and reportage have appeared in The Paris Review, Harper’s, New York Magazine, Granta, The New York Times Magazine, Slate, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Gulf Coast, Vice.com, and frequently in Bookforum. She holds an MFA from the University of Iowa, where she was admitted as an Arts Fellow and subsequently served as the 2012 Provost’s Visiting Writer in Nonfiction. Thrown, her book-length essay, was a New York Times Notable Book of 2014 and is forthcoming in German, British, Dutch, French, and Swedish editions.
